Delivering Hope:

A Gift Card Drive for Families Targeted by ICE

ICE’s unconstitutional, racially based, warrantless abductions of Latino people are a campaign of terror. Agents wait at grocery stores, hardware stores, courthouses, schools, and hospitals to target families.

They claim to pursue criminals, yet instead of deporting people with violent records or warrants, cowards in ICE regalia stalk spaces where normal families live their lives. According to a Cato Institute study, sixty-five percent taken by ICE had no convictions, and ninety-three percent had no violent convictions.

In metropolitan areas where ICE continues its cruel and unlawful work, fear has replaced safety. Many people are now afraid to leave their homes. They avoid grocery stores, skip work, and withdraw from daily life.

Even green card holders and people who came here legally now fear for their safety, as ICE has repeatedly abducted, arrested, and jailed citizens, and has been filmed telling people that “it doesn’t matter anymore” whether they are documented.

MELT is collecting grocery store delivery gift cards to be distributed to vulnerable families affected by ICE’s unconstitutional abductions. Gift cards for services like Instacart, UberEats, and DoorDash, as well as regional grocery stores that offer delivery, allow people to safely access groceries and other necessities. These gift cards also help supplement income lost due to ICE’s campaign of fear.

We are partnering with local migrant activist organizations who can distribute these gift cards directly to families in need. At this time, our efforts are focused in the DC metro region, including Maryland and Virginia suburbs.

Want to Deliver Hope outside the Washington, DC metro region? Let’s talk. We would love to help you get started collecting and distributing grocery gift cards to families in your own community.

Maximize Your Impact

You can often buy $100 in grocery delivery gift cards, like UberEats or Instacart, for about $80 at Costco. Many grocery stores also give extra rewards points or cash back for gift card purchases. Log into your rewards accounts, clip digital coupons, and use credit cards that offer grocery or restaurant bonuses.

Airline or credit card points can also be redeemed for gift cards. A few extra steps can make your donation go farther and help more families in need.

Who we are:

We are mothers and community members from all walks of life with one thing in common: we are witnessing immigration policies and actions that go against what we believe is right, both as Americans and as mothers.

We’ve watched violent events unfold that violate our values and, all too often, the Constitution itself. We’ve felt helpless as families are torn apart and due process is ignored. We have decided not to sit idly by. Now, we are coming together as a calm, clear, and unified voice to speak out and call for change.
