How We Gather:
MELT Meeting Guidelines
Shared values. Shared responsibility. Shared purpose.
At MELT, how we gather matters as much as why we gather. These simple guidelines help us create a respectful and welcoming space where our shared values, not our differences, can lead the way.
- We open each meeting with hope.
We begin by sharing something positive—a recent success, an act of kindness, or a reminder of our purpose. - We use group votes to make decisions.
Every voice matters. We choose our direction together, with respect and transparency. We certainly do not want to rule by tyranny. - We speak one at a time and share the space.
We don’t interrupt. We make sure everyone has a chance to be heard, including quieter voices. - We respect our differences and remember our common ground.
We may hold different views, but we are united by a belief in family, decency, and the Constitution. - We take ownership of our words and feelings.
We speak for ourselves and take responsibility for how we communicate with others. - We apologize when needed.
If we make a mistake, we say so. We repair, we learn, and we move forward together. - We keep the focus on those affected.
This movement is not about us. It’s about the vulnerable people harmed by ICE. We center their dignity, not our egos. - We refrain from discussing other issues that might be divisive during our meeting time.
While we recognize that many urgent issues deserve attention, we commit to keeping MELT focused. Staying on mission helps us protect unity and prevent unnecessary strife.
